FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF WOMEN ARE THREATENED BY A WANNABE KING AND HIS COURT JESTERS!
It was time on Sunday, Nov. 23 to walk with women and men in Glen Park, San Francisco for gender justice lost and being lost since DJT was inaugurated.
The struggle to secure women's rights is not over. It's ongoing and it needs your body on the streets and your voice in the ears of national and local legislators!
You may see other blogs about how women have been treated unfairly and overlooked in the ancient and present music world, including the fact that San Francisco STILL does not have a women music director of its well-reputed Symphony.
But this blog is about power and justice and summarizes the focus of the November Glen Park Walk. its theme was: Let's get R.E.A.L.
Reproductive care: fund Planned Parenthood now closing down from loss of Medicaid reimbursement, 1/3 of their clinics and by law they don't take federal funds for abortion which constitutes only 4% of their services to both women -- and men (10% of their patients are men!)! Did you know DJT said that "contraception IS abortion"? He and the theocrats are next coming for ALL contraception including the day-after pill, mifepristone. Sign up to volunteer as a Patient Escort at your local Planned Parenthood clinic on abortion days. There is a renewed national push this fall 2025 by right-to-lifers, some of whom get in the face of patients and take illegal pictures to threaten them. We volunteers serve a front line to welcome patients and shield them so they can get needed health care.
Epstein: release ALL the files, not just the ones from the estate. Name those who purchased underage girls and forced them to have sex or trafficked them. Remember one teenage victim trafficked to Prince Andrew, Virginia Guiffrey who at age 41 (apparently from illness, an accident, and assault by her husband) committed suicide. Don't let her life go to waste!
Abusers: prosecute and punish all people who paid for sex with teenagers or trafficked them. Curtail DJTs abuse of the pardon power (March 8 DJT fired Liz Oyer, pardon attorney) such as pardoning criminals and thugs involved in the January 6 attempted coup and take over the Capitol and our democracy. Support law firms who sue DJT for Constitutional violations such as denying due process to immigrants legal or illegal! Sue DJT for sexual assault in civil cases where he is not immune. Lobby judges to immpose civil contempt and lock DOJ lawyers up who are lying in court -- and 35 judges have said so!
(1) secure SNAP so it's can't be cut off again while 6 million sits allocated and DJT refuses to spend it (41% of single moms rely on SNAP!)
(2) secure Medicaid and the ACA,
(3) stop DJT from destroying social security (historically women earn less, rely more on social security, and live longer than men),
(4) protect and house unhoused women on the streets subject to attack and abuse,
(5) fund Medicaid to avoid closure of nursing homes where 70% of residents are women, (6) (6) secure scientific research on alzheimers (75% are women) and women's health issues such as breast and ovarian cancer cures
(7) reverse denial of health care and choice to transwomen,
(8) reverse discrimination against alternate lifestyle choices by any woman, queers, people with disabilities, immigrants, and racial minorities and indigenous tribespeople, especially women, single mothers, and all mothers.
(9) Call out misogynistic comments as made on the campaign trail Oct. 2024. DJT said he will protect women "whether or not they like it" -- DJT, a man convicted by a civil jury with $85 million in fines to pay for the sexual assault of E. Jeanne Carroll where two other women testified to the same! A few days ago DJT said to a businesslike woman reporter asking about release of the Epstein files "Quiet, piggie!" A whitehouse spokesperson called this acceptable because she should be able to take what she gives.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Will all women and pro-feminist men now step forward and REFUSE to be abused and demeaned by this despicable misogynist?

ACTION OPPORTUNITIES

Work to expand the court (support Ore. Senator Ron Wyden who introduced this bill in Sept. 2024 to also require disclosure of their tax returns!) and/or put term limits so we are not hung for a lifetime with uber-conservative, theocratic, paternalistic judges and a Roberts Court who want a gendered White slave again: women pregnant having White babies and back in the kitchen serving men and changing diapers!

Join the fight to overturn Citizens United - the 2010 sole case that allowed huge pots of dark money including Musk funding DJT's election with $250,000! Work to overturn Americans for Prosperity v Bonta (2021) that hid sources/names of political money donors because "major donors could be harassed"!

This is what we protect and protest --
the destruction of: Fundamental Rights -- which were a favorite topic of the most humanist justice of all time: Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas.
Justice Douglas was my favorite jurist when I was in law school and until this very day. Here is an image of the original news clipping in 1975 that I took from a local paper eulogy by the ACLU just after Justice Douglas died. It remains framed on my office wall, for inspiration.
I loved Justice Douglas for believing that all human beings -- including women -- deserved respect. While he wrote many opinions in his amazing 39 year career on the Supreme Court, I loved him most of all for authoring the first opinion about a woman's rights to privacy in the matter of contraception, in Griswold v Connecticut.
In 1879, Connecticut banned use of any drug or instrument to further contraception. A gynecologist at Yale School of Medicine opened a birth control clinic with Estelle Griswold, head of Planned Parenthood. They were arrested and convicted, affirmed by higher state courts. The legal question was, does the US Constitution protect the right of marital privacy against state restrictions on a couple's ability to be counseled in the use of contraceptives? Justice Douglas said "yes - it does!"
This case served in 1973 to extend women's choices including abortion, in Roe v. Wade.
The facts show that over years that abortion is typically chosen by women already parents who can not afford to have another child, or women miscarrying and requiring an abortion to save their lives.
Abortion: legal - safe - rarely needed --- that's what we want! But Alito and Roberts don't agree, along with Thomas, Coney-Barrett, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh who have a stranglehold on the high court.
Today based on Justice Alito's and the Roberts ultra-conservative majority's Dobbs decision reversing Roe, 12 states have outlawed abortion entirely, saying "let the women die - their lives are worth nothing compared to a miscarried fetus". Doctors are fleeing those states because the standards are not uniform or clear. They flee to pro-choice states like California (which is one key reason I live here). Four more states limit abortion after six weeks when most women don't even know they are pregnant.
Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon revealed in a Senate floor speech a few weeks ago, that in negotiations with Republicans to reopen the government and fund health care and Medicaid cuts, the Republicans proposed to do so in exchange for a NATIONAL ABORTION BAN.
Did you know that we are just that close to a complete shut down of women's right to control our own bodies and choose how we wish to continue living and protect our family choices?
For women control of our bodies and our lives and choices remains an eternal battle. A wannabe king and his court of jesters (think RFK, Jr. just as a start) are threatening to return women to "tradition", pregnant and in the kitchen to serve men. Incels like Nick Fuentes and influencers like the former Charlie Kirk follow the Project 2025 playbook, and concur.
I loved Justice Douglas for being a bit of an iconoclast, sometimes irascible and demanding of his law clerks, a tireless worker who straight away wrote his opinions without excessive ruminating or vagueness - a justice always "his own man" the way I want everyone to "be their own person" in life, with the indestructible right to be that way!
